Chickamauga Battlefield Tour/Picnic

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park – Covering more than 8000 acres, the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park was established by Congress as the first and largest national military park.  The National Park Service maintains that “No battlefield park of this quality and magnitude could be found in any other nation of the world.”

Dedicated in 1895, the Park commemorates the September 1863 Battle of Chickamauga where 34,000 Americans, both Confederate and Union, were killed or wounded over a two-day period in one of the hardest fought battles of the Civil War.  Join us for a 7-mile guided auto tour of the historic battlefield itself featuring more than 1400 monuments, historical markers, and wayside exhibits - most planned and placed by Union and Confederate veterans of the battles fought here.  Tour the modern Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, offering a multi-media orientation of the 1863 conflict, exhibits illustrating the impact of the war on the common folk as well as rare and unique items from our nation’s past.  Our visit will end with a picnic lunch on the grounds of the national Park, a solemn reminder to us all of the epic clash for freedom fought here in the bloodiest battle of the Civil War.
